My business strategy revolved around access to fellow college students with no shortage of time on their hands. Hiring these hungry professionals, I paid them an hourly wage to wait in the line and charged a higher one to the customer. I found that there was a great number of wealthy tourists willing to pay exorbitant amounts of money in order to make their trip to NYC memorable. Aside from wages, the business had no other fixed or variable costs, and I was steadily raising prices and meeting demand. Advertising was through craigslist, but I was finding my listings being taken down, and had it continued, I would have needed to start paying for marketing. I concluded the venture when my college housing moved far away from Midtown Manhattan. In the end, I myself earned several thousand dollars, effectively doing away with the need for a menial part-time job. Additionally, I provided several hundred dollars of income for poor, starving college students. Overall, I consider the experiment to have been an overwhelming success, and a valuable source of real-world experience.
