As an employee of the City of Ames Assessor's Office, I updated and maintained residential property records by using ProVal Plus real estate software. By inputting dimensions and features of homes, a just valuation is the end result. I also aided in keeping property records up to date based on changes that come about from transfers, new construction, and property owner feedback.Another aspect of my job was to take minutes for the Board of Review sessions that start in May each year. These minutes are published and are part of the public record. I also assisted in making property record information available to the Board of Review members to facilitate the hearings.Being part of a small team was also an important aspect of my job, and being able to communicate with my co-workers effectively regarding property information was key, and helped allow our office to be one of the top performing and one of the most accurate assessor's office in the State of Iowa.

I worked at Hy-Vee during high school and through my years in college as a produce associate. As my experience grew there, I aided the department manager in floor planning and building displays in order to effectively push our products. These would change often based on product availability, seasonal items, and customer purchasing trends.Another responsibility of mine was to learn about our products and aid our customers on the use, flavor, and preparation of the many produce items we carried. Customer service is very important at Hy-Vee, and during my time there I learned how to interact with customers with great effect. Being able to balance being a full time student and working nearly 30 hours each week was a challenge for me that I met head on, requiring discipline and to be constantly planning ahead each week.

As an opinion writer for the Iowa State Daily, it was my responsibility to write weekly columns. But more so than that, it was up to me to effectively research topics I was writing on and write in a manner that displayed the work that I put into each column. Editing and proofreading my work was also critical to this position.Meeting weekly deadlines while still writing quality work was a very important aspect of this job, as well as working as part of a team with the other writers and the Editorial Board were all features I was able to effectively cultivate during my time at this position.

As an undergraduate teaching assistant, I was responsible for several duties for Political Science 363 with Dr. Dirk Deam. I attended classes and took note of class participation, maintained office hours for student interaction, and I also graded tests. In return I received credits toward my degree as well as great experience working with students and the professor to foster a great learning environment.
