I don’t think I’ll ever stop hiking. Nothing still gives me that same wonder as discovering a new part of nature. I want that sense of wonder and adventure to be held for generations down that line and to take responsibility for the world we live in today. As a future conservation biologist, I hope to be able to preserve what nature we have left in our nation, discovering new strategies to help protect these areas and educate the public helping others realize the beauty before us all. I think the best way to teach others about conservation and raise awareness is through leadership and hands-on experience. Showing others, the fun in nature and working through conservation to help them become connected to the natural areas available to them. As everyone is a public landowner, they should all know how to care for and properly use this land. I’ve worked on many teams and held leadership roles in which I’ve been able to make decisions for a team and work under heavy time constraint having to make compromises. I’ve worked with the Rocky Mountain Raptor program in taking care of birds of prey used for education use, cleaning, feeding, and monitoring raptor health. I’ve also done ecological restoration work in the northern Colorado area on public and private land through clubs I participate in. I have numerous skills in ecological surveying and measurement for forestry, rangeland, wildlife, and watershed areas. I have learned good grasp on ecological restoration and proper trail management, as well as skills in identifying local flora and fauna and am LNT certified.
