Here's why I mention it:With lifelong complex medical needs and hundreds of healthcare encounters, I've come to realize that the American healthcare system often treats people as a condition to manage rather than as a whole person with dreams, ambitions, and a life to live. That’s why I’ve dedicated my life to helping others with heart disease and other chronic illnesses regain control of their lives and feel empowered in their healthcare journey.I help providers, patients, and caregivers do heart disease better.On top of managing my own complex medical needs, I've also experienced significant life and career upheaval in order to take on full-time caregiving needs for a parent debilitated by a stroke and heart attack. A growing number of folks can relate to these kinds of experiences. We're fast-approaching a present in which virtually no one is unaffected by health and caregiving challenges, including sudden and unplanned crises. And nearly a third of everyone dies of heart disease. Informing my personal experiences and convictions is a broadly multidimensional background that includes: - Gerontology (study of aging) - Global health - Social work - Biology - Theology - Teaching and speaking - Business ownershipAs a speaker and consultant, I help folks walk to the beat of their own heart.
