About Jacob George
Currently completing my Master's in counselling psychology, mental health advocacy is a passion of mine. My work in social services has shown me how polluted contemporary society is with injustices, and I want to be part of the change, paving the way for the generations to come. Queer theory is the starting place of it all for me, because queer theory promotes diversity, personal well-being and love and acceptance for anyone and everyone regardless of who they are. Currently working relief hours in a halfway house, I have found my passion helping others, and I am excited to see what new amazing people I will meet in the future. I have crisis intervention training, my standard first aid, and a strong determination to see that people are receiving the respect they deserve. Overall, I am a kind-hearted team player, who works well with others and wants to see the whole succeed.

Working as a Pizzaiolo at a high end restaurant has taught me a lot about the work atmosphere and recognizing the importance of getting a job done right, each time and every single time. In a fast pace environment you have to be prepared to adapt to any obstacle that comes into your path, and you always need to have a backup plan prepared. With my teams performance and adaptability rates, there have been several times where we were able to successfully sell all of our dough for the day (+200 pizzas), affording us the leisure to begin preparing extra dough for the following day.

As a Peer Mentor my role was to establish myself as a friend, and a role model for underprivileged children and teenagers. I was able to establish strong connections with the students I was working with, and one of my proudest moments was helping a student with a developmental disability understand how to tell the time - with patience, kindness and dedication, we were able to read a clock all by ourselves, and the level of joy on the students face when they realized how to tell the time is unforgettable. Overall I was there to support them, and to be a trusting friend that they could look up to, and I lived up to those expectations.
