Four preps for 7th and 8th Grade ELA and Social Studies. First 4 years teaching, were with 5th and 6th Grade ELA and Social Studies. I develop unit and lesson plans with an emphasis on developing teamwork, critical thinking and problem solving skills, while aligning with Common Core standards. I work diligently to improve student writing skills and develop deeper knowledge of concepts versus wide coverage of content.

Work with student athletes to improve individual and teamwork skills. Emphasis for my teams is on Defense, Teamwork, and Character. I provide guidance and encouragement to help students profit from their participation through learning lifelong skills in addition to sports specific skills. Coach both high school boys and girls, taking teams on an annual 2 week training trip to California as well as numerous tournaments in Canada, Washington, Oregon, and California.

Bainbridge Island

Work with student athletes to improve individual and teamwork skills. Emphasis for my teams is on Defense, Teamwork, and Character. I provide guidance and encouragement to help both students, as well as adults in the Masters program, profit from their participation. Responsible to coordinate all tournaments for both boys and masters teams, primarily taking place in the Pacific Northwest. Team sizes range from 20 to 30 players with all age ranges, starting at 11 years old.

Greater Seattle Area

Oversee and actively seek improvement at Seattle terminal with responsibility for all terminal functions, such as personnel management of 4 team leads and 25 longshoremen and checkers; vessel loads/offloads; value added services (e.g., sorting commodities); truck, container, railcar scheduling/loading/offloading; cold storage management; terminal repairs; environmental compliance; and safety compliance. We handle palletized and general cargo; sending groceries, fishing gear, and construction materials to Western Alaska, while bringing back frozen fish and crab.

Responsible for leading and developing warehouse workers to ship merchandise to guests who ordered products on Target.Com. Through developmental assessments and feedback helped improve their initiative, quality, and productivity, in order to function as a self-directed team. Also responsible for developing training plans and best practices for the fledgling Target.Com operation.

Responsible for leading and developing mechanics and utility attendants, setting weekly priorities of work for scheduled preventive maintenance, conducting developmental assessments, and coordinating all building projects for largest tilt-up structure in the United States. Also responsible for enforcing contracts with all outside vendors as well as providing support to all operations divisions in the building. Through both process and operational improvements enabled building to come in $500K under our $2 Million budget.

Responsible for leading 4 vessel operations supervisors to cover 231 vessels per year, developing their problem solving and decision making skills, training new vessel operations supervisors, reviewing all inbound plans and prestows to identify potential problems far in advance of operations, developing operational improvements with our Stevedore, resolving billing disputes with our Stevedore, monitoring/de-conflicting Port of Baltimore vessel scheduling for WWL, and working as vessel operations supervisor to cover shortfalls in schedule. Held approval authority for up to $200,000 per vessel operation in Port of Baltimore.

Responsible for de-conflicting berthing issues, planning discharge/load operations, making on-site operational plan adjustments to keep all gangs actively employed and maximize stowage, monitoring operations to limit damage, and verifying all plans, manifests, time sheets, and invoices for 1 to 2 vessels per week. Also responsible for oversized cargo tracking and equipment forecasts for Baltimore Ops.

Responsible for planning vessels for maximum stowage efficiency, ordering labor in various North American ports to ensure the most cost effective results, and coordinating with Stevedores, Port Authorities, Agents, and Vessel Captains. Also conducted Savannah berthing coordination, and secured Panama Canal bookings for my vessels.

Served as the Battalion Operations Officer responsible for planning, managing, coordinating, and executing all vessel and terminal operations through the ports of Charleston and Savannah. During Operation Iraqi Freedom managed 5 Marine Cargo Specialists to cover an average of 3 port calls a week (planning pre-stowage, working vessels, and conducting ensuing terminal operations), sometimes working both ports simultaneously. Also appointed as the Assistant Contracting Officer Representative responsible for enforcing the Stevedoring Contract with Stevedore and for ordering labor and equipment from Stevedore and Port Authorities.

Served as Light Truck Platoon Leader and briefly as Battalion Adjutant before reassignment. Learned effective leadership and execution from my non-commissioned officers and employed those skills during various field exercises and deployments to NTC and JRTC. Recognized the importance of, and continuously drove, the cross-training of all personnel in the units I led to ensure maximum flexibility in the execution of our mission. Graduated from Basic Military Mountaineering, Air Assault (Honor Graduate), and Airborne schools.
