Jaco is a development professional with over a decade of experience in Social Entrepreneurship, and five years in International Development, particularly in East and Southern Africa.With a rich history in both the private sector and civil society, Jaco has worked from grassroots to government supporting and building a social entrepreneurship industry in South Africa and Africa since the early 2000s. For the past five years he has been applying this experience in the more traditional international development sphere, particularly focusing on topical areas such as agricultural development, regional and economic integration, and private sector development.Jaco has extensive experience in business development, proposal management, online and offline marketing and communications, project development and management, report writing, relationship management, and public relations. He has a solid understanding of donor-procurement procedures and protocols, particularly for the European Union, African Development Bank, World Bank, the UK Department for International Development, and many others.His market-based development approach is supported by working at both micro-level with entrepreneurs, grassroots organisations, and beneficiaries, and macro-level with regional apex organisations, government departments and ministries, international donor organisations, and private foundations.This diverse history of experience is driven by his interest in emerging economies and understanding which evidence-based development mechanisms really create better societies for citizens of the world.
