As the Project and Construction Manager I was responsible for managing the entitlement, building permitting and construction of residential urban infill development projects and for managing the entitlements process for larger commercial office, laboratory and industrial projects. I was responsible for researching and gathering data on upcoming prospective projects to determine feasibility, and then creating strategies, budgets and timelines for obtaining all required permits and agency approvals. For projects that moved forward, I initiated and managed the procurement of consultant and construction services, analyzed and compared proposals, reviewed contracts and identified potential scope gaps or risk items. I managed construction budgets and schedules, ordered materials, coordinated work with subcontractors, reviewed billing, and made sure all inspections were completed and permits closed out with agencies. After project completion, I assisted with any new owner or tenant call backs as needed.

As the Area Superintendent of construction I worked closely with Project Managers to understand project scope and oversee the coordination and completion of renovation projects in the medical center buildings. I was responsible for creation of project schedules, management of project budgets, and assignment of superintendents and foremen to renovation projects. My team was responsible for all aspects of construction and quality control for renovation projects.Key Achievements◆ Managed 20+ concurrently running medical center renovation projects including remodels for radiology, hospital patient rooms, sterile areas, exam rooms, offices, and restrooms.◆ Coordinated with facility stakeholders to ensure safe, successful construction related shutdowns of HVAC, electrical, medical gas and plumbing in active patient care areas with no adverse patient outcomes.◆ Coordinated safe, successful crane pick onto occupied hospital building.

As the Environmental Stewardship Manager, I was responsible for developing the sustainability strategy and goals for the medical center and supporting environmental impact reduction projects for energy, water, waste, purchasing, and greenhouse gas emissions. I analyzed utility and waste data from our 50+ waste, water and energy accounts to identify opportunities for environmentally beneficial projects and recommended cost effective projects to leadership. I initiated, tracked and drove to completion multiple ongoing sustainability projects. I conducted plan reviews, engaged stakeholders, and provided feedback on all sustainability related construction projects and coordinated with facility and construction stakeholders to ensure safe, successful electrical shutdowns and crane picks for construction projects. I collaborated with our Public Affairs team to publicize successful projects. Key Achievements◆ Developed the Environmental Stewardship Manager role at the medical center from a “proof of concept” project, to business case creation and approval, to the creation of the current program, goals and focus areas.◆ Earned the nationally recognized Practice Greenhealth Partner for Change Award for both the Oakland and Richmond facilities in 2016 and 2017. ◆ Participated in an ongoing microgrid (solar + battery) project at one of the hospitals. This is a first of its kind project in a hospital and is funded by the California Energy Commission.◆ Demonstrated cost favorability for the sustainability program with savings of nearly $350,000 per year through energy, waste and water reduction projects implemented in 2016.

As the Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist, I was responsible for ensuring facility compliance with Federal, State, Regional and Local laws and regulations related to occupational safety and environmental health and for serving as the facility The Joint Commission Environment of Care chapter lead and subject area expert. In this role, I developed policies and training to educate staff on Environmental, Health and Safety and Environment of Care topics. I also conducted environmental compliance rounds and collected and analyzed data to validate that facility programs effectively mitigated risks.Key Achievements◆ Ensured compliance with Federal, State, Regional and Local laws and regulations related to occupational safety and environmental health and successfully navigated numerous regulatory and accreditation agency inspections with minimal findings and many accolades on the program. ◆ Conducted extensive construction document reviews and punch walks, recommended changes, and ensured compliance with EH&S regulations during the design, construction and opening of a 900,000 square foot hospital, medical office building, central utility plant, and parking garage. ◆ Provided expertise, specifications, and recommendations regarding EH&S and fire and life safety regulatory requirements during renovation design reviews and pre construction risk assessments. ◆ Refreshed the entire Environmental, Health and Safety program including rewriting all policies, reports and plans and implemented automated tracking of participation in safety programs to substantially reduce data entry and improve accuracy of staff participation records. ◆ Partnered with the Kaiser National team as the initial beta tester and facility level feedback provider to develop electronic rounds (eRounds) documentation software which is now deployed enterprise wide for tracking and escalation of all Environment of Care rounds and findings.

During this summer internship, I designed a comprehensive industrial hygiene program for an acrylic emulsions manufacturing facility, conducted all of the required personnel monitoring for hazardous materials exposure, and compiled the results and recommendations into a comprehensive report for management.

I worked in a variety of university laboratories where I was responsible for collecting samples and other data for experiments and developing standard operating procedures and safety procedures. In my final year in this role, I successfully established and managed a new hydrology laboratory under minimal supervision for an incoming faculty member at the university.
