About Jacqueline Mac

Jacqueline Mac (she/hers), Ph.D., is a first-generation Southeast Asian American college graduate, daughter of refugees, product of public education, and a social justice and equity educator. She deeply believes in the power of the collective to bring positive and radical social change to the world. Her pedagogy centers on cultivating inclusive and equitable classrooms that use culturally sustaining strategies. To enact this pedagogy she partners with learners as they uncover their connections to course content, challenge each other to collectively learn and collaborate and discover their own roles in facilitating change towards equity in our society. Jacqueline’s research focuses on racialized campus environments, institutional transformation towards equity, and higher education access policies. She has a particular interest in racially marginalized, Southeast Asian American, and refugee populations, as well as Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-serving institutions (AANAPISIs) and other minority-serving institutions. She uses critical theoretical perspectives, engages knowledge from fields outside of education, and employ methodologies (e.g., critical case study, collaborative autoethnography, critical grounded theory) that challenge traditional and rigid ways of thinking about the researcher-participant relationship and merge methodological rigor with critical approaches to inquiry. For her dissertation, Jacqueline conducted a collective embedded case study on how institutional agents at minority-serving institutions transformed their institutions to better serve students. Her work experience in higher education includes diversity education and training, intergroup dialogue, graduate student services, multicultural affairs, and Asian American student college access and success. Jacqueline is also a diversity and inclusion trainer and consultant, and has worked with local and national nonprofit organizations and government agencies. In addition, she has taught classes in leadership studies and ethnic studies, and is an adjunct faculty member in Georgetown University’s Strategic Diversity and Inclusion Management program. Jacqueline holds degrees in psychology, Asian American studies, and college student personnel, and higher education. She joined the Higher Education and Student Affairs program at Northern Illinois University as a Visiting Assistant Professor in Fall 2020 and teaches courses on assessment, higher education public policy, and quantitative research in higher education.

Listed skills include Student Affairs, Leadership Development, Community Outreach, Social Justice, and 26 others.
