About Jacqueline Torres

I am a public health scientist and social epidemiologist focused on the role of policies, families, and community social networks in shaping population health and health inequities, particularly in mid and late-life. My ongoing research examines the role of family social connections, caregiving, and household composition changes in shaping late-life health, including Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. I approach my research from a life-course perspective and social determinants of health framework. Much of my research employs modern epidemiologic methods to improve causal inference using observational and quasi-experimental approaches. My research is funded by multiple grants awarded by the National Institutes of Health and UC San Francisco. I enjoy mentoring trainees in research, grant writing, and career development.
