I am a senior systems analyst and software developer at Britehouse Automotive. One of the products that Britehouse Automotive provides their customers is a Dealer Management System (DMS). This DMS allows their clients to keep track of their financials, all service related activities, and the movement of parts and vehicles in their dealerships in addition to activities relating to dealership forecourts.I am part of a team of software developers who are responsible the for maintaining and extending the capabilities of this system.If you were to break down my job into its constituent parts it would be the following.Analysis of system requirements. This would either be for bugs that need to be fixed or projects that are assigned. Depending on the nature of the task this could require speaking to system support, business analysts, other developers, quality assurance, professional services and or general managers. The relevant stakeholders would be consulted depending on the type of information required. Sometimes these would take the form of informal discussion and at other times meetings would have to be arranged.Software development. This phase usually occurs after varying levels of consultation on what is required.The last component would be testing the software during and upon completion of the task.Reviewing code of other developers.

Developed software for retail customers. Analysis of business requirements for work I did was also part of my job function.The language used here was mainly Ceres (which was based on Cobol), Linux bash scripting and system support.

Provided systems support to all employees. This required some knowledge of Novell, knowledge of computer hardware used both on the sales floor as well as the back offices and server troubleshooting.
