Greetings!My name is Jacques Thibodeaux. I am in my eighth year of teaching secondary English language arts. I have a Master in Teaching degree and a Preliminary Teaching certificate with endorsements in secondary English language arts (6-12) and biological science (6-12).I became a teacher to advocate for students. I continuously aim to encourage, empower, and uplift. I strongly believe in providing an equitable education for all students by attending to student strengths and challenges.I strongly believe in the power of collaborative, project-based, place-based learning to motivate students to become life-long learners and active members of their communities. I also believe that 21st century skills, grit, and a growth mindset are necessary for success.I create lessons that cater to various learning styles, interests, and levels of readiness. Student choice and voice are found in all of my lessons.I enjoy employing scaffolds such as modeling, collaborative learning, graphic organizers, sentence stems, and technology. Formative assessments include entry/exit tickets, check-ins, conferences, discussions, and observations.Examples of technology used in my classroom are Schoology, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, YouTube Studio, Screencastify, FlipGrid, Google Classroom, Google Slides, Google Docs, and more. I believe teachers are models for students, and as such, we have an obligation to behave as we would want our students to behave. I believe an effective teacher willingly collaborates, cooperates, shows empathy, and builds community. Other interests include Japanese culture, animal husbandry, gardening, hiking, self-improvement, philosophy, anthropology, and DIY projects. I have many interests and am passionate about life. I am always eager to try new things and push myself to become a better teacher and individual, and I hope to use my talents and strengths to make my community a better place for all to live.
