With residing in a residence, I learned how to balance extra curricular activities with academics as academics was always prioritised.

I worked in a colour-sorting team, with the objective of identifying departmental shortcomings to improve the throughput of the nuts. The goal was to ultimately improve operational inefficiencies in the division and balance the line capacities. Statistical process control and overall equipment effectiveness frameworks were developed and tested in a simulation model using AnyLogic software along with Java coding.

I analysed and improved product flow on processing lines to identify bottlenecks responsible for reducing output and efficiencies of the systemThe aim of the project was to optimise product flow, thereby decreasing cycle time, with a simultaneous increase in throughput I worked with the packhouse manager and staff to analyse flow of the citrus processing lines within the packhouse. Layout and methodology followed when tipping product onto the lines was improvedResulting changes and improvements yielded a theoretical increase of 100 crates in product processed per day; equivalent to an increase 35,000 kg of fruit processed

I worked with staff from various disciplines to gain insight into the industry, as I was tasked with overseeing and ensuring installation of an automated welderAs I completed limited time on this vacation work, the result of the installation was not yet evident when my internship ended. There were minor adjustments still to be implemented before the welder could be utilised optimally.I also gained experience into the operation and workflow of a workshop as well as various processes that are completed within the workshop.
