As Health and Wellbeing Planning and Policy Officer, I worked with council departments and the Boroondara community to deliver on our wellbeing commitment to the community - for mental wellbeing and social connection, healthy eating, active living, reduced harm from alcohol and preventing injury and violence.

The City of Melton is growing rapidly and Melton City Council is an exciting and challenging place to work. Key health promotion priorities include prevention of violence against women, community connectedness and healthy eating.

In this role I applied a complex adaptive systems approach to chronic disease prevention and contribute to the evidence base for this world first initiativeI worked closely with early years and children’s settings to adopt a health promotion framework that embeds health into everyday practice. This role formed part of a dynamic, highly skilled health.

Social inclusion and food access were key priorities for the health promotion team at Inner East Community Health. Within my role I focused on increasing social capital and food access to the public housing residents living in Ashburton. The complex health and social needs of the community required collaborative effort of key local providers.

In a jointly funded role between Kingston Primary Care Trust and Royal Borough of Kingston I was responsible for developing a population level health promotion approach to mental health and wellbeing. The role incorporated improving relationships between key local providers, conducting strategic needs assessments and identifying appropriate resources.

In this position I was responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating wellbeing programs for young people that emphasized and encouraged active and healthy lifestyles. I was required to research best practice models for both community development and health promotion and to develop a strong understanding of the target groups and relevant issues. I.
