I work on a variety of projects integrating land and sea processes into spatial planning, quantifying and mapping biodiversity and ecosystem services, and scenario planning to inform ridge-to-reef management and climate change adaptation in Australia, Hawaii, Fiji, and Vanuatu.

I am a senior fellow with the marine team of the Natural Capital Project. My role bridges the science teams and the training team. Through my scientific expertise, I tie research applications to the training program. Prior joining NatCap, I worked in collaboration with decision makers, local communities, and NGOs in Hawaiʻi, Fiji, & Vanuatu to advance science and co-develop place-based tools that can answer their questions. My research interests lie in bridging land and sea to support people and nature in a changing world.

• Quantify shoreline change and simulate sea level rise scenarios impacts on the shoreline• Data management and analysis to package products for decision makers.• Build ArcGIS online database of shoreline change.

• Assess and project the impact of taro field restoration on coastal sedimentation and coral reefs (He‘eia, O‘ahu)

• Developed a linked land-sea framework to assess and project the impact of land cover/use change, fishing, and climate change scenarios on coral reefs at the sub-watershed-scale to inform resilience management. This transdisciplinary effort was coordinated across three sites (Hā`ena and Ka`ūpūlehu watersheds in Kauai and Hawai`i Island and Kubulau in Fiji)

• Led the storm water quality program for the State of Hawai`i, including conducting science and monitoring to manage storm water runoff and ensure compliance with nearshore water quality standards; data collection and analysis, modeling, mapping, reporting, coordinating staffing, and design/implementation of Best Management Practices to mitigate and prevent impacts.

Natural Resources & Environmental Management Department

• Developed methods to quantify, map and model marine ecosystem services using biophysical models around Maui Nui island group; wrote grants, conducted literature reviews, collected and analyzed data, and prepared reports and manuscripts; built research collaborations, coordinated ongoing projects, and supervised more junior researchers.

• Built research collaborations and partnerships with government agencies and non-profits. Wrote grants, conducted research, analyzed data, and prepared manuscripts. • Conducted research on social and ecological conditions influencing the ability of coastal communities in South West Madagascar to self-organize and increase resilience to climate change.

Hawaiian Islands

• Led and coordinated underwater bioacoustic data processing, analysis, and management to map and characterize marine mammal distributions. • Assisted with presentations and report writing for regions of focus, including the Main Hawaiian Islands, Japan, and Alaska. Served as a mentor, trainer, and supervisor for several interns.

Brisbane Australia

• Conducted impact assessment of catchments runoffs on coastal waters and ecosystems in Australia.• Designed and conducted marine water quality studies, biological inventories and mapping, risk assessment (monte carlo), and mitigation.

New Caledonia

• Co-designed and implemented a long-term water quality and coral reef monitoring program.• Built local capacity by training local community members to conduct underwater monitoring on SCUBA.
