About Jade Kosché
Jade Kosché is a DPhil candidate at the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies under the supervision of Professor Fernanda Pirie. Her doctoral research employs ethnographic methods to investigate the societal effects of a private labor governance program, the Gender Justice Program in Lesotho. The program is intended to reduce gender-based violence—a phenomenon prevalent in the factories and throughout the global garment sector. The program is one of only a handful of its kind, leveraging the purchasing power of multinational brands via contractual arrangements between the brands and workers. Jade is particularly interested in examining the effects of private governance on workers’ labor and social rights in low- and middle-income countries. Her research is funded by the UK Research and Innovation’s Economic and Social Research Council. Jade has a range of experience in editing and producing legal scholarship, performing research assistance, and working as an attorney. She serves as Senior Editor of Theoretical Inquiries in Law, a law journal ranked within the top three most-cited legal theory and jurisprudence journals in the world. Jade has worked as a research fellow with the European Research Council-funded TraffLab Project and its principal investigator, Professor Hila Shamir, since 2019. Jade serves as an assistant editor for the forthcoming book, Modern Slavery and the Governance of Global Value Chains, to be published by Cambridge University Press.Originally from California, Jade received her AA, summa cum laude, from Los Angeles Valley College and her JD, magna cum laude, from Trinity Law School. Jade completed her LLM, summa cum laude, in international business law at Tel Aviv University under a Fulbright Fellowship in 2021, then wrote her LLM thesis in international private law in 2022 with the Zvi Meitar Center for Advanced Legal Studies. Jade served as an Executive Editor of Trinity Law Review and a research assistant for Dean Yofi Tirosh, conducting comparative law research on sex segregation in Israel. While researching human trafficking in Cambodia, she also authored a manual, which is used to train non-governmental organization workers and inform anti-human trafficking project planning worldwide. Jade briefly practiced labor and employment law in Los Angeles, California, her hometown. She enjoys volunteering as a mentor with the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles and the American Corner - Maseru, Lesotho.
