About Jaden Spotten
“Jaden you are spot-on!”I don’t think it happens for everyone, but my last name has acquired quite the list of funny nicknames over the years, like Sparta or Spotify. But there is one I became very fond of because of how it describes who I am. In 7th grade, I had a P.E. teacher tell me “You are spot-on” anytime I did something well or thought I was doing good. Those with whom I frequently interact know that I am indeed very analytical and somewhat of a perfectionist. Not always is it a good thing, but because of it, I try to be as detailed, precise, and “spot-on” as I can be in everything I do.A passion I’ve had since I was young is mathematics. I don’t know why it creates such a spark within me. All I know is that I love it. It required me to pay close attention, analyze problems, and try to find the solution. Following a step-by-step process was fun for me, but lacked opportunities for me to be creative. Although the classes helped me to be more attentive, I needed something more. Waiting for higher-level math courses was not ideal. However, I wouldn’t have to wait around for too long.Maybe due to my dad’s career pivot into computer science, I made the choice to try an AP Java class during my sophomore year of high school. Did I like it? I loved it so much that I didn’t want to put it aside. It was always my first priority and was the outlet I had needed for my creative side to flourish. Finally, I had something to fuel my passions! In the last two years of High School, I attended a community college where I completed an associate of science in computer science. There I felt like I was in the right place where I could do what aligned with my passions. Now, I wasn’t so invested in STEM that I didn’t do anything else! There were other things I did that impacted me greatly. To name a couple, I completed my eagle scout/project and volunteered two years of my life to serve a church mission in Brazil.I believe with all my heart that in addition to my educational endeavors, my time as a boy scout and as a missionary helped me transform into the person you see today: someone who is responsible, caring, humble, and loving. I’m certainly not perfect and have much more I can do to be a better person, but I will seek it daily. I don’t know everything about coding, but I hope to learn as much as possible while I work on my BS in computer science at BYU-Provo and as I pursue opportunities as either an entry-level developer or intern.“...now is the best time to start becoming the person we eventually want to be.”-Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Construction Worker
At the start I was full-time and then when I started attending university, I went down to part-time.The jobs I varied quite a bit during the time I worked as a general laborer. Every house was different and some needed one thing while others need something else. Some of the main things I did include:-Grading out areas of dirt, sometimes for the purpose of laying concrete.-Assisting my co-worker with laying down flooring.-Installing drainage pipes for the gutter downspouts.-Digging or backfilling holes and trenches for water lines, conduit, etc.-Landscaping and spreading out dirt.-House clean-up and garbage removal from job sites.-Spreading straw to prevent Jobsite erosion.-Screwing down the floorboards.-And a variety of other labor-intensive tasks.I think everyone needs to learn how to work hard in life. Like every job, not everything you do is enjoyable. However, there is always something to be learned. I've always worked hard, but this job helped me to take it one step forward and develop the ability to tolerate difficult tasks and job conditions.
