Dr. Ryu's IDRONE Program is leading STEM workforce development to provide technical solutions for real-world problems by engaging the next generation of scientists and engineers across autonomous unmanned vehicles (AUVs) ecosystems, including unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), unmanned ground vehicles (ground robots), and unmanned surface vehicles (drone boat). Broad practitioners from K-12 students/teachers to professionals involve hands-on STEM activities to build, code, and operate AUVs safely and legally by meeting federal regulations and safety guidelines for their own applications, including but not limited to transportation, delivery services, wildfire monitoring, law enforcement, environmental quality, public safety, climate change, and more. Cohesive multidisciplinary collaborations across disciplines (computer science, engineering, social science, economics, and public policy) are critical to develop strategic roadmaps toward coexist with humans and machines (AI) on earth and space in years to come.
