Controls Department,Team Beast, Student Design Competition(Sdc)

A team of 20 students ranging from 1st years to 3rd years of engineering from different branches of Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication and Computer Science collaborated for participating in the competition organized by ASME called Student Design Competition taken place in March 2018. The topic of the competition was called "Robot Soccer."The task was as follows:- In an arena of 5m X 5m, 4 teams would be competing by using robots that play soccer.- There would be 2 tennis-sized balls at the side of all the respective teams (total 8 balls in the arena). Each team had to hit the other 6 balls in the opponent's goal post while also securing the 2 balls oftheir respective sides. As any number of robots were allowed to build, we made a total of 5 robots - one was the goalkeeper which was controlled using a DPDT switch and four robots were the shooters which were controlled using PS3 Dualshock controllers wirelessly. From the four wirelessly controlled robots, two robots were 4-wheeled(circular wheels) and the other two robots were 3-wheeled omni-wheel robots. The details of all the components used for all the wirelessly controlled robots are as follows:- Arduino Uno- Gear motors 300 RPM- Gear motors 500 RPM- Motor driver L298- Circular wheels- Omni wheels- Play Station Dualshock remote controller- USB Bluetooth dongle- USB Host Shield- Battery 12VAfter all the designing and manufacturing of the robots was done using aluminum, the significant work had to be done by the programming and electronics team to get the robots in proper working conditions. We used Arduino IDE for programming all the components of the robot which involved moving the robot in the desired direction, collecting the ball and shooting it in the opponent's goal post. This was a great experience in which I learned how to be a good team member, explain & understand other's ideas, electronics skills, & critical thinking skills for future uncertainties.

Nov 2017 - Mar 2018

Zonal Round Participant

Mumbai Area, India

As a project for the competition called MeshMerize held at Techfest, IIT Bombay 2017, I had to build an autonomous robot that can follow a white line and keep track of directions while going through the mesh. The bot had to analyze the path in the dry run and has to go through the mesh from the start point to the endpoint as mentioned in the arena in minimum time.So for this robot, I had to use the following items:- Arduino Uno- A two-wheel chassis- Two wheels- Three Infrared sensors- LN293D Motor Driver- Two Gear Motors- BatteryThis project was very challenging as the robot didn't have to just follow the white line and complete the mesh, it had to also remember the shortest distance for the second time it was put on the same mesh after the completion of the first run. For serving the purpose of remembering the shortest distance, the ATmega328P IC in the Arduino Uno should be used. This being my first national-level competition-based project, I improved my critical thinking skills, programming skills and learned how to deal with contingencies faced during the process.
