Since 2018, Student App Centre has been the go-to website for student discounts on premium and professional-level software.In 2023 alone, Student App Centre sent out a whopping 45,000 discounts to students across 100+ countries. We've gone global and partnered with well-known software developers like AglieBits (1Password), Doist (Todoist), and Flexibits (Fantastical).Within Student App Centre, I wear many hats - from support management and developer onboarding to marketing. But my true passion lies in crafting growth plans for the future.In September 2023, I made a game-changing move with Student App Centre. We introduced a new subscription tier, marking a shift from relying solely on affiliates. Within just one month, this new subscription accounted for over 10% of our total revenue. And the best part? It's only going to grow from here.Student App Centre is powered by a custom-built PHP website with a MySQL database. We've taken it a step further by directly integrating with Zoho CRM, Zoho Desk, and Zoho Campaigns using their APIs. This automation has saved us time and kept our team lean (just 2 of us!). At the end of 2022, I decided it was time to move on from Goldstar IT, however, I was asked to stay on as a contractor for a further year to allow time for the business to expand the team and to replace the roles that had previously been mine.As part of this new role, I reduced my working time to two days per week, and became less client-facing as I focused on mentoring the more junior developers on the team through the use of training sessions, peer programming sessions, and collaborative system design sessions.Where my schedule allowed, I retained my role in leading client discovery/onboarding sessions and took the lead on designing most client systems, but unlike previously, I would then hand over any project work to be managed by the new project manager.Although I enjoyed spending more of my time working collaboratively with the Goldstar team, I did miss managing the full project process, as it created a disconnect between discovery/onboarding and the project itself. This made it clear to me that my preference is to work in a more hands-on role, directly with the client.I opted to leave Goldstar IT several months earlier than initially planned as I felt the team had grown to a place where they didn’t need me on a weekly basis and that I had hit a ceiling on what I could achieve within the company.In 5 years at Goldstar, I have learnt a lot from my colleagues and the fascinating clients I was lucky enough to work with at the company.

I started at Goldstar IT as the lead Zoho Developer. Within two years, I not only excelled in that role but also stepped up to manage entire projects. From a team of 2 project managers, I eventually became the go-to person for all projects at Goldstar IT.In my new role, I would be the client's go-to person. From mapping their business processes to designing and building their system, I was there every step of the way. Plus, I would deliver bespoke training over Zoom or in-person.I also managed a small team of developers using Jira, ensuring projects stayed on track. Despite the challenges posed by varying experience levels with Zoho, I successfully guided the team and kept our clients consistently satisfied with deliverables.Quality was my top priority in this role. I firmly believe that the smallest details can make or break a user's experience with Zoho systems. Take Zoho Desk for example: Why waste time sending repetitive replies when we can streamline the process with a simple button or even automate it entirely? These seemingly small tasks have the power to create significant improvements in user satisfaction.I not only led the project as Project Manager but also remained the Lead Zoho Developer. I took charge of training new developers, devising solutions, and handling the most challenging development tasks.During my period as project manager, Goldstar IT continued to take on bigger and more complex projects, including with clients from outside of the UK.

At Goldstar IT Consultancy, I kicked off my journey as the sole Zoho Developer. My main role was writing custom code using Zoho Deluge across a variety of Zoho applications like CRM, Creator, Desk, and Books.In this role, I crafted a tailor-made job management app using Zoho Creator. It perfectly catered to the client's unique requirements. Initially meant for just a few contractors, it has now scaled up to serve over 100 users without any updates. The app's scalability was a key aspect of its design—one that I prioritize in all my application development decisions.I also played a critical role in designing, implementing and rolling out a new Zoho system for a 50+ employee organisation. The new system was made up of Zoho CRM, Zoho Books, Zoho Inventory, and Zoho Analytics, with each application needing custom development to achieve the requirements set out by the client. This complex project included migrating the client's existing CRM and Finance data into Zoho with minimal disruption to the client - thankfully this was achieved, and the client is using even more Zoho applications today.In addition to the above, I led the development of numerous projects in this role. This included setting up Zoho CRM, Zoho Creator, Zoho Books, Zoho Analytics, Zoho Desk, and Zoho Campaigns.Many clients credit the Goldstar team, including myself, for designing and setting up Zoho systems that saved their businesses during lockdown. Thanks to Zoho, employees could work from home while maintaining full access to crucial data.
