Parkrun Volunteer
CurrentDuring my time volunteering at parkrun, I can take on several key roles that contribute to the success of the event every weekend including:As the Run Director, I oversee the event and ensure participant safety. This involves managing volunteers, providing pre-event briefings, and making critical decisions about course adjustments or cancellations.I conduct the Event Day Course Check to confirm that the route is safe, and I welcome new participants . In this role, I explain the parkrun ethos and course details to help them feel comfortable and included. As a Timekeeper, I record participants’ finish times using the Virtual Volunteer app, and as a Finish Tokens volunteer, I distribute position tokens as they cross the finish line. I also assist in the Barcode Scanner role, linking participants' times to their barcodes for accurate results. In the Tail Walker role, I follow the last participant to ensure everyone completes the event safely, providing support to those who need it. Additionally, I serve as a Marshal, offering encouragement and guidance on the course while ensuring participants stay on the correct path.I act as the Funnel Manager, overseeing the finish area to ensure a smooth flow of participants through the funnel, preventing congestion. Before and after each event, I help with Pre-event Setup and Post-event Close Down, which involves setting up the course and packing away equipment. As the Volunteer Coordinator, I manage the weekly volunteer roster, recruiting and assigning roles to ensure every event is well-supported. These roles help me develop my ability to multitask, work effectively within a team, and communicate clearly, ensuring that parkrun events run smoothly and that participants enjoy a positive experience.
