Project Objective (Team of 4): Development and design of a universal attachment mechanism to convert a standard wheelchair to an electric-powered wheelchair - Researched and analyzed past patents and similar competitor designs for improvements and usable design - Brainstormed, conceptualized, and drafted sketches for potential concepts - Utilized decision matrices and multiple iterations to select one final design - Drafted final design in SolidWorks - Conducted stress analysis using mechanics of materials and ANSYS to ensure design will not fail - Team manufactured final design and performed fitment and functionality tests - Results compiled into a formal design report and findings presented to MSOE staff and Switch Mobility

Project Objective: Rework forklift pillar design and BOMs to include built-in hardware - Lead discussions with supplier management groups to investigate where cost savings could be applicable - Lead discussions with international partners in Japan to confirm validity of project - Prepared new engineering drawings and BOMs to adjust pillars to include built-in hardware - Released 3 ECOs related to pillar reworkResult: Rework approved and recorded an estimated 65% in cost savingsProject Objective: Redesign fan mount to attach to existing pillar hardware - Gathered bracket measurements from several forklifts on production floor to gain insight of potential sizing - Designed 2 prototypes using NX-IDEAS to confirm fitment and location of fan and mount - Worked cross-functionally with manufacturing engineering to procure final design - Hand-tested final design on several forklifts to ensure bracket was designed properly - Updated BOM for truck modification requests to include new bracket when a comfort fan is requestedResult: New bracket is currently used when customer special requests a comfort fan, eliminating use of extra hardware
