iTEMA is an emerging national Tribal association created for Indian Country, by Indian Country. The mission of iTEMA is to promote a collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate against all hazards that impact our Tribal communities. iTEMA supports education, training and preparedness activities in a manner that promotes cooperation and equality for the whole community and works to develop partnerships with Tribal, Federal, state, and local agencies and organizations for the advancement of emergency management and services. To this end, we continue to formalize our organizational capacity and structure by and developing business and strategic planning structures to launch the organization.Why the "i"?The “i” is ambiguous in that it has multiple meanings and makes us unique from any other tribal organization. The lowercase “i" versus the uppercase letter was added to show humility. It gives individual ownership in our association, “i" becomes one within the context of our Team or TEMA. It stands for: Indian, indigenous, inter-Tribal; “i” is a source for information both from the internet and in-person, iTEMA will provide support for incident response, and provide immediate assistance. iTEMA is innovative, inclusive and lastly the “i”(eye) provides vision and looks to the future. Leaving the “i” open to individual interpretation maintains the fundamental intention of the association: to collectively create, sustain, and support a national association for Indian Country, by Indian Country.

As a contract instructor, I work with other highly skilled and experienced instructors to deliver the best practices associated with emergency management for Tribal Government. Specifically, I teach "Emergency Management Framework for Tribal Governments", "Emergency Management Operations for Tribal Governments", and "Continuity of Operations for Tribal Governments".

Long Beach, California

As the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program Manager, I work with a group of talented individuals to further develop and enhance the CERT program in the City of Long Beach, California.My responsibilities include but are not limited to: Developing forms, records, and a database to track training, program participation, exercises, mailings, etc., Developing a budget and obtaining funding to support program goals, Maintain records (financial, inventory, database of CERT members, etc.), Coordinate a CERT electronic newsletter or other mailings to maintain contact with current CERT volunteers, Establish Standard Operating Procedures for the use of CERTs in disaster and non-disaster situations, and Evaluate the overall program.In addition, I work with various partners in an effort to gain support by marketing the plan to local leaders, unions, first responders, citizens, employers, and potential partners. We promote CERT to the media in order to gain public recognition of CERT capabilities and accomplishments.Other responsibilities include: Scheduling training, follow-up training, exercises, special events, etc., Arranging program logistics, including classroom setup, Identifying, recruiting, and training, and schedule instructors, Recruit class participants, Maintain the course content, Monitor classroom delivery, Develop supplemental classes, exercises, and projects to keep CERT members involved and improve their skills.

Through collaborative efforts, my goal is to build and promote relationships with tribes throughout the United States to promote sovereignty and enhance self-governance through nation building. With an emphasis on emergency services, my goals are centered on increasing capacity and the continuity of tribal government during emergency incidents.

Provide fire protection, rescue and emergency medical services (EMS) in the City of Long Beach, California. I am a member of California Regional US&R Task Force #3 and a serve as a member of the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Team and Color Guard.
