I worked both as an assistant tutor and tutor teaching “Computer Maintenance” during the half-term and summer breaks. A five-day course teaching 10-15 young people aged 12-19 years old about the functions of the internal components of a computer, how to deconstruct and reassemble it, and its operating system.I found being able to adapt was key in this job. Each instance of the course was made unique by over subscription of the course, student’s varying range of age, ability and desire to participate. How the course was delivered was always being changed to keep everyone engaged and ensure all the students benefited in some way despite all the problems that were faced.

I worked as a junior race mechanic in a team of four. My ability to think creatively was tested a lot. The car would sometimes suffer damage in remote locations and would require an ingenious solution to get it into performing condition again. Such as using several beer cans and duct tape to create a thermally resistant oil catchment tank. The early hours and long days meant I had to tolerate colleagues who were not necessarily at their best and keep myself emotionally in check as well. Nevertheless, I enjoyed working within a team and supporting my colleagues in their tasks when mine were completed.
