About Jamal Uddin

Can a person influence the people around them and make a difference to their lives? My answer to this questions is a definitive yes. I hope this provides a window into my mindset and demonstrates my objective in the myriad different things I do in my life. I interact with numerous people in my day to day working life and in any given day this figure could reach over a thousand. Whether its delivering a lecture to a large audience or meeting prospective students and parents or having individual meetings with colleagues and students my overall aim is always to be inspiring and motivational. I love the outdoors and visiting new places. I regularly go hiking and love the national parks around the UK particularly the Lake District and Snowdonia.

    I have taught a wide variety of courses and have been involved in a number of innovative and interesting projects within the School of Mathematics. Currently I teach Mechanics to a group of 250 first year undergraduates and a specialist fourth year course known as Nonlinear Waves. In the past I have lectured in Perturbation Theory as well as Nonlinear Systems and Chaos. I am also a supervisor for M.Sci projects and PhD projects. I have supervised a total number of 6 PhD student in the last 5 years and have supervised 12 M.Sci project students.
