Highly experienced research scientist, lab manager and project manager focused on target discovery, validation and lead ops for inhaled and oral small molecule programmes in cancer, neuroscience, fibrosis, immunology and beyond. Skilled in laboratory setup, lab operations, mentoring junior researchers, project and person management, as well as bench science!Particular areas of research include pulmonary disease, autoimmune disease, immuno-oncology, and Parkinson's disease. Extensive molecular and cellular biology expertise gained from over 17 years in research organisations from PhD, postdoc and industry.Specific areas of focussed research include tissue remodelling and regeneration, iPSC models of neurodegenerative disease, immune cell killing, and neuroendocrine signalling in behaviour. This research has exposed me to all areas of drug discovery from target ID, C2TV, candidate selection and lead ops all the way to early Ph2b and have extensive experience in assay design, validation, phenotypic screening and high throughput imaging assays.

Director Of Pharmacology At Galecto, Inc.Galecto, Inc. Jan 2023 - Feb 2024Oversaw the setup and running of a fully functional cell biology lab that was the in-house preclinical in-vitro capability at Galecto. Here I oversaw day-to-day running of the lab, was responsible for all aspects of safety, procurement of equipment and management of budget, as well as managing a number of preclinical projects and people.I managed projects involving small molecule galectin inhibitors and their interference with profibrotic cell signalling, as well as devised novel functional live cell imaging assays to measure behaviour of primary human cells in immuno-oncology context. Furthermore, I was responsible of acquisition/supply of primary human cells for experimentation and oversaw the procurement/use of GMO cells as a member of the local GMO committee.I was also responsible for the outsourcing and management of projects to CROs during this time and bringing clinical target engagement assays in-house to accelerate delivery and effect cost savings. -
Associate Director Of PharmacologyGalecto, Inc. Jan 2021 - Jan 2023Stevenage, England, United Kingdom -
InvestigatorGsk Aug 2018 - Jan 2021Stevenage, United KingdomInitially in the fibrosis and lung injury DPU and later in the newly setup Novel Human Genetics department I managed preclinical projects and performed lab work in neuroscience, auto-immune, fibrosis and oncology indications, amongst others. Exclusively working with small molecules, projects included basic mechanistic biology and mechanism of action studies; target ID, assay generation; structure-activity-relationship; lead-optimisation; biomarker ID and target engagement assays on a number of inhaled and oral molecules. -
Senior ScientistGsk Oct 2016 - Jul 2018Stevenage, United KingdomWorking as an experienced cell biologist focused on target discovery, validation and lead ops for programmes in pulmonary fibrosis. Using my extensive hands on expertise in cell matrix biology and assay design to support the development of anti-fibrotic therapeutics that target integrin biology. -
Postdoctoral Research ScientistUniversity Of Bristol May 2011 - Apr 2015University Of Bristol, UkThis project was an industry funded collaboration with Bioventus where I was the primary researcher in a regenerative cell biology lab investigating the signalling mechanisms that govern cell migration within the context of wound repair.By identifying key cellular mediators and applying treatments to drive the activation of pro-migratory cellular machinery, normal cell behaviour was restored in primary human cells taken from diabetic patients that exhibited delays in wound healing. This treatment accelerated wound closure in murine models that exhibit defective wound healing thereby overcoming the delay highlighting the potential for this treatment in humans with chronic wounds. -
