I read a report and it changed my lifeI’ve always enjoyed leadership and mentoring and it’s something I have been very successful in for the last 17 years. Ranging from direct leadership and mentoring to project management often taking highly technical information and converting this to easy-to-understand conversations or reports for people at all levels of corporate and small businesses.But I always felt something was missing. Could I give more? Was I pushing myself and utilizing my full potential? To have a career that wasn’t a job but a passion?That’s when 1 report changed my life. It was the U.K Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2020. How can so many businesses have been attacked? Why had there been so much manipulation of people, tricking them to give their information or download that one file? Social Engineering to find the data they need to take advantage or look for that one weakness in a network that wasn’t secure?A fire was sparked that quickly turned into an inferno there was so many questions I needed answers to and I knew this was what I had been looking for. The last 2 years have been an amazing journey of learning, research and networking to change a passion into a career. So, what have the last 2 years looked like? … I started with Networks from Cloud to Physical. Azure, AWS, Data Centres so much more. Then the OSI Model from TCP/UDP to DNS and data packets and everything in between.Having a solid knowledge of networks and how they worked allowed me to then move onto their vulnerabilities and how they can be exploited. I started with Cloud Security and moved onto to CompTIA Security+ and finally EC Council Certified Ethical Hacker which I passed with a 99.2% pass rate. I have a broad knowledge of networks and how to exploit them but most importantly how to spot the weaknesses so other people cannot exploit the vulnerabilities. I’ve picked up the relevant certifications across to way to test my knowledge and show the hard work is worth it. Getting a certification is my Gold Medal at the end of a race and something I can be proud off. So, what’s next…More learning, It will never stop and that’s what I love about this industry its now time to move my career into Cyber Security. The areas I find most appealing are SOC, Threat Hunting and Penetration Testing so this is where my focus will be from both from a Studying aspect and that all important job within the industry.Then back to people leadership and mentoring combining the 2 passions I have in my professional life to make a difference to both people and companies.
