Position: Main role required gaining experience in coastal engineering and coastal modelling techniques, including physical and numerical modelling. Strong focus was on building communication skills, project management skills and producing deliverables; as well as collaborating effectively with senior engineers and staff. Tasks include: Investigation into coastal erosion protection systems; Building knowledge of physical and numerical modelling techniques; Understanding erosion causes in south-east Queensland; Design of effective mitigation strategies; Definition of coastal physical modelling requirements; Detailing effectiveness and limitations of coastal numerical modelling programs. Achievements: Development and production of a set of guidelines for use whilst undertaking coastal composite modelling, including definition of data requirements, methodologies and deliverables. Presented final project at Griffith University thesis Expo November 2016.

Position: The role demanded superior analytical and troubleshooting ability, as well as strong communication skills. Assigned to a 'Truckless' Mining project requiring large data set analysis and filtering, learning of new optimisation programs, development of an optimisation model. Total haulage option comparisons for the life of the mine. Open-cut metalliferous and coal strip mines.Tasks include: Learning new optimisation programs; Developing a mathematical optimisation model; Maximising Net Present Value of project; Establishing accurate representation of both Truck and Shovel and In-Pit Crushing and Conveying options; Production of optimal mine schedules for three different extraction volumes; Generate year by year, block by block mining sequence; Producing visual representation of pit pushback sequence; Development of data reduction and organisation macros. Achievements: Earned outstanding commendations from Supervisor on final deliverable for the project; Comparison of Truck and Shovel, In-Pit Crushing and Conveying and Autonomous (Trucks) haulage options, mining sequences and final NPV. Mining Engineering thesis showing the pros/cons of several haulage options.
