As the president of the only university Human Powered Aircraft team in the UK with a flying aircraft, I lead an enthusiastic team as we push the boundaries of human powered flight with our upcoming channel crossing project. With my ongoing Aerospace Engineering masters and human powered aircraft experience I have a unique set of practical and organisational skills, from manufacturing propeller blades from carbon fibre composite, to organising flying sessions and trying to predict the British weather. With the society I've developed skills in designing and manufacturing lightweight structures, learnt to manufacture and repair composites with a variety of techniques and used manual mills and lathes to manufacture parts for our drivetrain. I've also developed my leadership skills by organising and co-ordinating between our design, avionics and manufacturing teams, and by organising flying days where I am responsible for the safe operation of the aircraft, pilot and ground crew.I also sit on the RAeS Human Powered Flight Specialist Group, where as Education Co-ordinator I am responsible for representing the interests of University societies, as well as organising and running the only student human powered aircraft competition in Europe.
