I'm an award-winning journalist, producer, researcher and communications specialist with 12 years of experience across Mexico and Latin America and a focus on migrants and refugees. I deeply believe in the power of storytelling to connect people in distant places and inspire action. I tell stories in every format and medium for outlets including New York Times, NPR, the Guardian, Washington Post, BBC, PBS NewsHour and Financial Times. I won an Edward R. Murrow Award in 2019 for my NPR radio series following a Honduran family separated under Trump's Zero Tolerance policy. I've produced short films like "The Waitlist", which I presented at US House and Senate briefings with policy recommendations. I've also written editorials in favor of migrants and refugees for Washington Post and Current Affairs. My work with INGOs, government agencies and humanitarian groups seeks to understand human rights issues, find the compelling narratives around them, and move audiences to action. I have accompanied the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) on missions in Mexico and Central America as a communications consultant and writer. I have produced reports on migration issues for the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) and worked with Save the Children on their campaign against child marriage in Mexico. I worked with RAICES Texas on its #StopMPP campaign at a makeshift refugee camp in Matamoros, Mexico. And I was a longtime consultant writing success stories across Mexico for USAID's PROJUST criminal justice training program.
