About James Irwin

I have been a entrepreneur since my career began, including the early stages of GIS development. In the time since, I have contributed to biofuels and other biotech, including the extraction of the anti-inflammatory/anti-oxidant astaxanthin from algae. In 2018, our astaxanthin formulation/technology was purchased outright by a larger biotech company, and in 2018, I co-founded Point 3 Biotech to explore microalgae, zero-waste agriculture and terpenes, going to market spring 2020 with our first terpene formulations.

    I co-founded Point 3 to research and produce a range of sustainable biotechnology products. To date, we have established three main areas of research. This includes microalgae and the opportunities that it presents, which include aspects of the other two points—the microbial conversion of resources bio-refined from agricultural waste streams such as livestock manure; and terpene isolates derived from a variety of Health Canada registered strains of hemp. Currently, we farm and research at our facilities in British Columbia and Ontario.

    I founded and led Regenurex Health Corporation (formally AlgaeCan Biotech Ltd) in 2008 to lead research into the properties of Haematococcus Pluvialis microalgae. By 2015 the company was producing the anti-inflammatory/anti-oxidant Regenurex astaxanthin formulation, extracted from the algae. Our astaxanthin was produced though a novel wet extraction process. I sold Regenurex Health Corporation to Pond Technologies in 2019.
