Jim Herbert is an entrepreneur and philanthropist. After graduating from Babson College and beginning his career in financial services, Jim founded two beverage companies, Soda Pop Systems in Richmond, VA, and Bay Beverages in San Francisco. In 1985, Jim returned to financial services, founding First Republic Bank in 1985 with the goal of providing exceptional service to local constituents and communities. Jim served as First Republic’s CEO for over 35 years, becoming its Executive Chairman in 2022. Jim’s passion for philanthropy and the arts has guided his leadership roles with numerous charities in San Francisco, including the BASIC Fund, a non-profit educational foundation providing scholarships to thousands of Pre-K to 8th grade students each year, and the San Francisco Ballet where he has served as Trustee, Chair and Vice Chair. He most recently founded Chelsea Factory, a New York City-based performance and cultural center, in 2022. His love of the arts also drew him to the Lincoln Center of the Performing Arts, where he has served as a Trustee since 2008.
