James is an experienced policy professional with particular expertise in green skills, further and higher education and migration/integration. Since 2011, he has led a range of projects in these areas for the Mayor of London/GLA. Previous to this, he was the national lead for refugee integration (employment and training) policy for over five years. He initially trained and worked in further education. Through volunteering, he has also been involved in housing policy, primary education and pre-employment training for young people..James has built a successful track record of positively influencing key areas of public policy and practice. He recognises the value of evidence-based policy work and has commissioned/managed several pieces of research and analysis. These have shaped policy and programmes to open up opportunities for people in employment, education and training. James has extensive experience of working with a range of stakeholders to deliver policy change - including business, education, political and community representatives. He has also been a member of several departmental bodies and is skilled at working in a political environment.James has strong intellectual and communication skills. He is a team player with the ability to lead and manage projects well. He has worked outside the UK for a number of years, including with the British Council, and across a range of sectors – private, voluntary and regional government. He is a confident and persuasive public speaker and a skilled workshop leader and trainer.
