James McLane (Jim) is an accomplished architect who has been the leader of a wide range of projects, focused in California as well as overseas. Jim tackles the unique, complex project with broad skills in all aspects of practice. He is at his best when he leads the project as both Project Manager and Project Architect. As a designer, he creates humane buildings and spaces with an emphasis on sense of place. He balances a classical approach to space and façade composition with a contemporary design aesthetic. Jim is a very effective problem solver, with the ability to mediate issues in groups and reach consensual resolutions. He is often called upon to resolve the sticky issues with clients, and he does so with all parties satisfied. Jim has high standards for design, technical detailing, as well as work products, and he is always engaged in mentoring the younger architects in achieving excellence.
