About James Morley

After a long and fulfilling career in the agricultural machinery world, I'm now enjoying new challenges in the recycling world. I'm working with my brother to recycle PVC. We have two small companies - BM Tech Recycling sources the waste material and processes it to end of waste status. PVC Pellets then sells the finished product. A manager and leader with broad experience managing aftermarket sales and marketing within the Agricultural and Turf equipment industry. Used to influencing without authority to lead change internally and with dealer partners. A good communicator who enjoys working in a team, bringing out the best in each other. I appreciate creative thinking and working with diverse colleagues to find innovative solutions. Familiar with working remotely with international colleagues as well as leading a remote workforce. Aware of the importance for a company of a strong brand, vision, mission and sense of purpose.

  • John Deere
    Aftermarket Sales Manager
    John Deere Jun 2008 - Nov 2020
    Nottinghamshire, England, United Kingdom
Recognising that selling Service helps to sell Parts, my job title was changed and the job upgraded. I was involved with the launch of the regional version of PowerGard, John Deere's extended warranty scheme. This was the start of a change in the way of working with the regional head office based in Germany which ultimately became virtual groups working on projects with MS Teams.PowerGard was one of the first "Services" that we asked the dealers to sell. I've been involved with seminars, training and workshops over a period of many years as the range of FarmSight services grew into Connected Support and Precision Ag. Helping dealers to implement changes to sell and support these new services has been fascinating.I was involved in setting up and ongoing promotion of the management training programme for dealer senior management for the Aftermarket. In 2010 I gained a "dotted line" responsibility for the UK based parts warehouse and expediting functions.I was part of a project team set up in 2017 to prepare for Brexit. To help improve communications to dealers we tried various ideas in addition to the regular bulletins. Most recent was the use of Skype and then MS Teams meetings during the Covid-19 lockdown.
  • John Deere
    Parts Marketing Manager
    John Deere Sep 2000 - Jun 2008
    Nottinghamshire, England, United Kingdom
The move back to an office based job was driven by a desire to be closer for our young family. But I quickly realised that Aftermarket business was something I loved. During this time we went from me and an assistant to gain a team of 3 field based Area Managers to cover the UK and Ireland. We were active to promote Parts support at shows and to take dealers to Expo events in USA every other year. In addition, running regional dealer meetings around the UK and Ireland. We started the "Parts Tech" apprentice scheme for dealer parts counter apprentices. I was responsible for budget setting and achieving growth goals.Communication was a big part of this job. As well as the meetings described above, the regular channel used was written bulletins. Developing a style to engage and inform whilst avoiding ambiguity is something I have been able to practise until I left John Deere in Nov 2020.
  • John Deere
    Territory Manager
    John Deere Oct 1996 - Sep 2000
    Central England, Wales, Ireland
This role was focused on the Turf side of the business, so an opportunity to learn about a different customer base to Ag. Good lessons about the importance of business relationships and time management. Many more opportunities to present training courses and product launches. A period of strong growth for John Deere in the Turf business. Lasting memories that helped me in the rest of my JD career - the importance of out of season servicing and recycling machines when they become used, selling the same machine again and again.
  • John Deere
    Trainee Manager, Pricing, Credit Supervisor
    John Deere Aug 1989 - Sep 1996
    Nottinghamshire, England, United Kingdom
A lot of learning about an office environment, the dealer organisation, presenting training and doing presentations. An exciting time as PC's started to appear in the office. I had bought a PC when doing my Degree and was able to bring word processing, spreadsheet and DTP skills to update many tasks during this time.
  • Family Farm Plus Several Other Farms
    Farm Work Experience
Family Farm Plus Several Other Farms Aug 1980 - Apr 1989

Through my teenage years I worked on the 135Ha arable family farm during school holidays. I worked for a 150Ha livestock farm with contracting business in the Scottish Borders for 12 months after A levels and before going to Agricultural College. I did 9 months internship on a 1,766Ha CWS estate in Gloucestershire (arable and dairy) in 1987 - my first experience with a large workforce. All of this gave me a lot of practical experience and a strong work ethic.
