I am a PhD candidate conducting research at the University of Toronto and The Hospital for Sick Children, where my work utilizes a bioinformatics, biophysical, and material sciences approach to understand how molecular conformation, dynamics and interaction mechanisms facilitate the formation of natural materials, with an aim for future application in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. From my research career I also have experience in cellular biology, chemistry and nanoparticle design, and biochemistry that all have contributed to an appreciation of leveraging a systems level approach to solving complex problems.Outside the laboratory I believe we as scientists should actively educate the lay-public on scientific findings as well as demystify the nature of our work. Towards this goal I have hosted talk scientific seminars, panels on scientific communication, and volunteered on the Peer-to-Peer Communications Team to help fellow students improve their oral presentation skills. I also am motivated to pass it forward, regularly mentoring and tutoring students in math, reading, and writing (Children's Aide Society , Detroit Boxing Gym) both in-person and and virtually.As I conclude my doctoral work I am now searching for opportunities to apply my skills in biomaterial design or protein self-assembly and phase separation. With publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at conferences, as well as a strong capacity for collaborative work, project management and leadership, and an ability to learn quickly and apply practical problem-solving, I am excited to bring my expertise to address challenging research questions at institutions or in biotech and pharmaceutical companies.
