Red Kite Learning Trust (RKLT) comprises thirteen schools in Harrogate and Leeds including nine primary schools, three 11-19 secondary schools and one “all-through” free school. Main responsibilities include:- Reporting to the CFO, responsible for all aspects of financial accounting for the Trust and produce monthly Management Accounts and support the budgeting and forecasting process. - Manage a Central Finance team of accountants and finance officers to ensure full compliance with the Trust’s regulatory bodies- Standardising reporting and provide accurate and timely financial information to the Board and to Headteachers. - Key contact for internal and external stakeholders including External and Grant Audits

I started as the Financial Controller at Masta in April 2017, and my main responsibilities are:◾Ensuring correct processes and controls are in place and opportunities explored continually◾Review of the monthly management accounts (Balance Sheet, P&L, Cashflow), and preparation of budgeting and forecasting commentary analysis for board and Group submission◾Tender and pitch for work, including costing for quotations◾Various MI and project accounting◾Production of statutory accounts to UK and US GAAP◾Management of the finance team◾VAT return, corporate taxes and any other statutory requirements

I am an Audit Manager based in the Leeds office and manage a portfolio of 20 clients. Included in my portfolio is a wide variety of clients, including those in the manufacturing, retail and food and drink industries, with turnover ranging from £5m - £120m. My client base is diverse and I have experience with both UK GAAP and IFRS reporting for private and AIM listed companies. In managing my portfolio, I have to liaise with clients, staff and other business stakeholders to ensure that audit and other reporting is completed within the relevant timescales. On a monthly basis I am required to monitor work in progress and monthly billing, tracking recoverability of jobs against forecast and prior year. More recently, I have been involved in business development creating and presenting the document used in the tender process to prospective clients and audit committees. I have taken an active role within the management group, and I am involved in delivering internal training on audit quality within our department and on the national graduate trainee programme. I also am a mentor to an undergraduate on the Leeds University Business School mentoring programme.

I am an audit assistant manager based in the BDO Leeds office, and work on a variety of clients, including those in the manufacturing, commercial property management and other owner managed businesses. My client base is diverse and I have experience with both UK GAAP and IFRS reporting for private and AIM listed companiesI am currently building a portfolio of clients which I manage whilst being involved in the complex technical areas on site. As part of my new role I will also be involved in the training and development programmes for graduates and mentoring junior members of staff.

As the Audit Senior, I am responsible for junior members of staff on the audit team. This has primarily been in teams of up to 5 junior members of staff, guiding and supporting less experienced members of the team throughout the audit. Additionally, my role as Audit Senior and involvement in completion work has highlighted to me the importance of client relationships. I have strong communication skills, both written and oral and have been instrumental in designing and drafting audit findings reports to discuss with management and the audit team.

As well as my audit responsibilities, I am often involved in the initial preparation of the financial statements, and related notes from the client TB. I also gained experience with smaller, non audit clients, preparing accounts from their accounting records. Other tasks have included preparation of VAT returns, reviewing component auditor’s work and attending stock counts.I also have significant experience in the audit of charities, and the required preparation under SORP. This has offered me several exciting opportunities including audit fieldwork of a charity, which has a branch located in Cambodia. During my employment, I gained experience auditing a wide range of not for profit entities including pension schemes, large charities, academies and students unions.
