A full-time, on-campus course comprising Python-based technical lectures/labs and significant home/project work outside of class (approx. 65 hours p/w). The course focused on providing job-relevant data science and machine learning skills, covering a wide array of topics whilst also diving deep into the mechanisms behind the theory.The course culminated with a capstone project – the topic and aim of which was chosen by me. I decided to tap into my passion for football and try to predict Fantasy Premier League points using machine learning, with the eventual aim of automating team selection to maximise points throughout a season. Having found historical data on GitHub, I overcame issues with data cleaning and validity, using various regression techniques, including decision trees, random forests, bagging, boosting and neural networks, to improve from my baseline. The current results – using a simplified team selection method – achieve over double the total season points of random guessing, whilst improving on my baseline (selecting players based on their recent performance) by 29%. I foresee this project developing to the point of beating my own scores and hopefully entering the leader boards.

It was vital to liaise with clients and team members to gather requirements and navigate complexities within the projects. Frequently acting as a sole representative for my company at multidisciplinary client meetings or site visits, it was then my responsibility to provide updates or proposals to the firms and ensure the projects timelines were met. The roles often required working with relevant authorities to gain statutory approvals, discharge planning conditions and ensure compliance with government regulations.I was one of three in the company selected for the Curtins Reverse Mentoring scheme, promoting knowledge sharing and innovation within Curtins, as well as being part of the social committee.

The roles often required working with relevant authorities to gain statutory approvals, discharge planning conditions and ensure compliance with government regulations.Typically working on projects from inception through to completion, I was responsible for 100+ projects across both private developers and councils, including residential, industrial, commercial, schools, and highways.As grew within the team, I was required to delegate a portion of my workload to junior members of staff, whilst providing guidance and technical support.
