In 2001, after years as a ‘road warrior’ travelling around Asia as Regional President for a large US based multi-national consumer products company, I suffered from a one of your more classic burnouts and was forced to re-evaluate the direction and purpose of my life. Following this reflection, I came to the life-changing decision to re-focus on my health, my family and my sanity, and following this Vitality Brands was born - an Australian, good-for-you, consumer products company that promotes the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Building the company from the ground up, it became a successful, values based organisation, with turnover in excess of $150 million and a team of 75, operating in 14 countries outside Australia. In 2021, after having built a highly talented management team, I retired from the day to day running of the company and, whilst still maintaining my ownership and helping to guide the company's strategic direction, I now spend much of my time mentoring young people making their own way through life as well as helping business and community organisations deliver better outcomes that benefit their particular stakeholders and beneficiaries.

Starting the Vitality business was both challenging and exciting, and thoroughly tested the skills and knowledge I had gained throughout my career to that point. It also tested my resilience.A clear purpose and values helped me through the first few years and with a few good (lucky) decisions and a few good people who joined us on the journey, Vitality achieved consistent year-on-year growth and profit, which enabled the business to thrive. Since then, the Vitality ‘tribe’ has also grown considerably larger than it was in those formative years. It has remained, however, a group of like-minded people, working hard to expand a exciting portfolio of brands that help people feel healthier and happier. As we do business, we consistently seek to behave ethically, demonstrate respect for the planet and share our profits that will help to leave a positive social legacy.Like any business, it can occasionally hit stormy weather. These challenges have personally tested my leadership, the resilience of our team, and the power of our culture. But we have overcome these challenges, and emerged even stronger than before. We continue to grow profitably and are well positioned to continue to fulfill our Purpose: To build a company of sustainable financial value and positive social worth. Show less -
