The Action Design Austin Meetup has grown to 2200+ members. We share insights from various cognitive science fields and apply those to design problems related to helping individuals achieve their goals. The meetup meets monthly at Capital Factory, a startup incubator and a hub of entrepreneurial activity in Austin.

This 20,000 member non-profit is the largest organization focused on applying behavioral science to policy, products, and programs. In addition to providing reporting and financial management, I also support the network on various knowledge-sharing, planning, and growth initiatives

The fifteen-member lab is comprised of academics, entrepreneurs, designers, marketers, and technologists. * Recruited guest speakers to speak on far-ranging topics from the Player Psychology Considerations for Golf Course Design, Advances in the Neuroscience of Vision through the use of Virtual Reality, and Consumer Research Methods that isolate System 1 thinking* Implemented projects including prototyping an automated mechanism for the collection and curation of important Behavior Design topics and research.* Provided consulting services to a number of pro-social entrepreneurs

Investigated user needs from literature research, user interviews, surveys, expert interviews, and discussions with CMO. Developed user personas. Built mockups and demos for product concepts. Gathered feedback via crummy trials with potential users. Participated in executive team meetings and investor pitches.

Led design and development of products and prototypes to aid students with learning STEM-based subjects through AI-based tutoring. Integrated video and math-based editorial content, learning management systems, and symbolic evaluation and guidance subsystems. Implemented with a mobile-first approach. Formed and managed an offshore team leveraging Agile processes. Established and monitored server environments at Rackspace and Amazon Clouds.

Working with the Chief Architect, defined recommended practices and ancillary services for standardized restful web services to be consumed internally and externally that were pivotal to the company’s aggressive acquisition strategy. Shipped a reference implementation that was put into production on HomeAway.com and other HomeAway web properties. Modeled business domains in restful services applying HATEOS principles.

The team shipped 1.0 version of a multi-lingual deal-a-day site with many social networking features based on OSCommerce and LAMP technologies. Managed backlog and releases, and acted as liaison for an offshore development team.

Technical Architect for a HR Software Product Company that targets higher education and other public sector markets and implements a Software As a Service (SaaS) Deployment Model.• Also given Co-Director of Software Engineering responsibilities in April 2007. Managed team of six to ten employees.• Led process changes in issue escalation, build automation, production and test environment change management, and software development processes which improved communication, reduced post release bug counts, and contributed to on-time releases and improved customer satisfaction survey results.• Scaled and secured J2EE application in production environment as the company quickly added hundreds of customers and made the Inc. 500 list. Retooled application stack, replacing internal frameworks with open source technologies including JBoss, Lucene, Spring, and Hibernate. Virtualized server environment.• Worked with sales, IT, and customer support managers, built a shared vision, prioritized requirements, generated mockups, and communicated changes with stakeholders for key features. • Identified and implemented high value refactorings in addition to product features including search, reporting, and numerous product level integrations with third parties. • Team rearchitected flagship product with Ruby on Rails-based technologies and deployed into the Amazon EC2 cloud using RightScale. Shipped the product in January 2010. • Built a workflow engine in Ruby on Rails that supports dynamic workflow creation and modification, customizable time and state-based triggers with notifications and automated state transitions, historical tracking of both the workflow definitions and the objects going through workflow, and loose coupling to model objects.
