Profile bio

About James Cody

With five years' experience in an inorganic laboratory testing center on top of finishing my last year of Arizona State University's Physics Bachelor degree program, I have the knowledge, skills, and experience that would greatly benefit many industries in the chemistry, physics, and industrial field. In my years at the oil and gas testing laboratory, I rose from laboratory technician to a management position, specifically in administering site safety and environmental awareness. These skills not only address the simple day-to-day tasks that technicians' positions require gained through their knowledge and experience, but also the administrative expertise needed to oversee teams of technicians as well as company policies. While working at the industrial laboratory, I was trained in the maintenance, calibration, and usage of laboratory machines such as an FTIR Spectrometer, ICP-OES, auto-titration, viscometers, and many other types of test kits, many of which require knowledge in chemistry. I was trained in ferrography, a study of microscopic wear materials present in oils that requires almost expert use of microscope. In regard to ferrography, I was chosen by my company, a worldwide spanning corporation, to create a video lesson for customers interested in the details of the tests they order as well as being a teaching tool for future company training.Another professional achievement was the creation of a recycling and sustainability education program rolled out to every company laboratory in North America which entailed the design and production of posters detailing the 7 R's of Sustainability in addition to video recordings of professional and personal examples and an addition of sustainability moments added to the weekly safety moments. In my current education at Arizona State University, my laboratory experience takes on a much more mathematics and theory background as our groups were instructed to derive equations that the lab equipment runs on rather than understanding the inner workings of the equipment. By the time I started working with the university equipment, I had already had years' experience in maintenance and use of industrial equipment, so the knowledge that I had of machines such as the FTIR was compounded by the almost complete understanding of the equations involved. My experience and education allows me to excel at most laboratory settings, and with an educational background in physics on top of a professional background in inorganic chemistry, I would be more than an exceptional asset to a laboratory team.
