My role at Aurora mainly consists of BAU administration of several internal and vendor-supplied applications, hosted on Windows (Server 2000 – Server 2016) and Enterprise Linux (Oracle and CentOS 6 & 7) servers. Standout achievements during this time include the design and commissioning a monitoring system using Icinga, documentation portal using Confluence, and initial proof-of-concept designs of continuous delivery and monitoring solutions using The Foreman, Puppet and ElasticSearch, which have since been built upon further and have gone live to our production environment. My most recent work of note has involved driving the commissioning, configuration and training around Aurora’s new Jira instance, used by the Tech Team, Project Managers and Business Analysts, as well as 3rd party vendors, to help drive and track projects within Aurora’s Program of Work.I have also acted as the primary technical resource for projects encompassing both internally and externally facing systems. As a project technical resource, I have been involved in the initial scope and task breakdown, determination and design of systems resources, as well as the commissioning and building of the required infrastructure. I have worked closely and cooperatively with vendors and developed an intimate knowledge of the systems I have built and deployed as the result of project work, which I have shared to the team in detail through our documentation portal.

My role in Application Support with Betfair involves a number of duties. Primarily, we are an escalation point for Betfair's Technical Services Desk when issues are discovered with any of Betfair's Australian online channels, including the Australian Racing page and the Australian Mobile web app (also available as a standalone iPhone app), with each offer multiple products, including Fixed Odds, Tote Extra, Multiples and the main betting Exchange. Each application consists of dozens of inter-connected services and APIs, spanning servers in both Australia and the United Kingdom.Issues escalated to Application Support range from bug reports and tracking to customer bet disputes and investigations.Skills used in this position include basic Redhat/ CentOS troubleshooting to writing custom MySQL and Oracle database queries, as well as tracing customer and service actions through a number of log files to identify potential software issues or supply requested information about customer actions to the Betfair Helpdesk to aid in their investigations.Besides the technical requirements of the role, Application Support is also responsible for the Problem Management life cycle within the Information Systems department, identifying problems from raised incidents and working with project managers and developers to see these through to resolution or identify and accept the risk.
