FlyZero is a one-of-a-kind research project to revolutionise the future of commercial air transport, bringing together experts from across the UK aerospace and aviation industries to develop zero carbon emission aircraft concepts and establish technical and commercial feasibility. I was responsible for defining the market opportunities, commercial feasibility and the economic case for the development of zero-carbon emissions aircraft in the regional, narrowbody and longhaul markets for entry into service in the 2030s.

The role included providing strategic direction for the company, commercial and business development, service delivery, pricing and marketing strategies, contract negotiations and project management, with P&L accountability.• Grew the ACL International business by 30% per annum 2008-2015, reaching 48% of group revenues and 85% of group profits by 2015, through expansion in Dubai, Poland, Canada, and New Zealand, and with renewed business in Ireland. • Created a range of consultancy, forecasting and data solution services.• Created the world’s first slot trading website (slottrade.aero) and a range of transaction support services, to help airlines wishing to buy, sell and lease airport slots.• Developed business partnerships with leading aviation software and consultancy companies to leverage growth and diversify services offered.

Heathrow slot coordinator and leader of the ACL coordination team, responsible for delivering world leading schedule coordination services to airports handling 2.8 million flights and 300 million passengers per annum. • Implemented EU-US Open Skies in 2008, which centred on access to Heathrow slots; facilitated the trading of US$340 million in slots on the secondary market.• Managed growth of Heathrow’s annual air transport movements from 450,000 (1999) to 476,000 (2007) whilst reducing airborne holding delay by almost 50%.• Developed and implemented a system of financial sanctions against slot abuse at UK airports, reducing slot violations by 90%.• Created the world’s first Online Coordination web portal, enabling the automation of 90% of slot transactions and a 70% improvement in staff productivity. The portal is now available for 80 airports in 18 countries worldwide.• Championed the development of the Score slot coordination software system in partnership with ACL’s technology partner PDC.
