I was originally employed as an Analytical Chemist to develop HPLC methods for the analysis of personal care ingredients, providing chromatographic support data for the skin care portfolio. I also carried out stability testing on trial products to assist the formulation process. My analytical skills evolved to include various skin measurement and imaging techniques. I carried out protocols measuring the effect of prototype formulations on the skin against a competitive set, in order to influence product development and generate data for claim substantiation. I also had responsibility for the management and coordination of external consumer studies working seamlessly with study sites to maximise efficiency.

During my time in quality assurance I conducted analysis on new pharmaceutical products and stability testing of existing products. This included analytical testing using technically demanding chromatographic methodology and a wide variety of instruments according to GCLP (Good Control Laboratory Practice), GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and SHE (Safety, Health and Environment) requirements. Proficient in HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) and GC (Gas Chromatography). I was also the ‘Super-User’ for Millennium32 (chromatography data system), which involved providing first line support to Laboratory Users along with coaching and training less experienced users.Prior to working in Quality Assurance, I completed a 2-year Modern Apprenticeship within the High Capacity Synthesis Laboratory at Zeneca Pharmaceuticals. I took this approach to starting my career, as I wanted to exploit my eager ability to learn by gaining experience in the workplace and completing my higher education simultaneously. I performed a number of tasks associated around the high capacity production of new compounds with the use of modern computerised automation.
