Supplier And Outsource Contract LeadOxford University Press May 2017 - Jul 2020Oxford, England, United KingdomReporting to the global head of procurement I had responsibility for the commercial management of 3rd party IS Services and particularly OUP’s recently outsourced 1st generation global IT infrastructure and application support services where the relationship was becoming adversarial and tactical. I promoted joint openness on the issues, and ownership and delivery on solutions which built trust which then enabled the restoration of a strategic relationship. Other successes were the migration of ERP and other key business applications onto the cloud, the transformation of the WAN network and the evaluation of next-generation ERP systems. Overall, I delivered >£3.5m cost savings plus improved delivery performance.I also developed and deployed a supplier relationship management (SRM) framework which included supplier segmentation, a set of SRM standards and an assurance/monitoring methodology and toolset to optimise value from OUP’s supply base. -
Global Sourcing Leader – Sourcing Centre Of Excellence, Global ProcurementAstrazeneca Nov 2009 - Nov 2016Macclesfield, Cheshire, UkProvided thought leadership , advice and coaching on sourcing best practice, including outsourcing and supplier relationship management (SRM), across the organisation ($14bn supply base) and led several complex and high value ($75m-$600m) projects. Key achievements were:1. The development and deployment of an industry best practice procurement lifecycle framework to drive better value delivery and consistency across the supply base. I provided guidance, advice and coaching to raise the capabilities of both procurement and the business.2. The re-engineering of 3rd party spend management which improved procurement business credibility by identifying a ‘missing’ $2bn of spend which, together with the adoption of a 3rd party spend management service and tool, provided procurement, with a larger level of visible spend, to deliver greater value. 3. Transformation of the sourcing of clinical trial research in the critical US market resulting in 65% improvements in on-time, on-budget ($125m) delivery of 3rd parties as well as enabling internal operational savings. 4. Transformational changes to the sourcing of global operational regulatory and patient safety services resulting in an outsourced solution ($75m) providing a larger, flexible capacity to better meet future demands, redeployment of 90 FTEs to focus on strategic priorities and a 20% cost reduction.5. Development of a commercial framework to drive synergies and collaboration in an industry leading multi-supplier sourcing model for clinical trials ($600m) and avoid budget/performance issues with the prevailing sole supplier model.6. Implementation of industry-leading 3rd party tool and service enabling marketing assets to be created in a way that allowed re-use in different markets through selective localisation (eg: language) and reducing asset costs by up to 30%. -
Global It Contract LeaderAstrazeneca Aug 2007 - Oct 2009Following the negotiation of the renewal of the IBM IT services agreement I assumed the role of Global IT Contract Leader managing a team of contract managers in the UK, Sweden and the US to support the organisation’s transition to a new and very different contract and operating model with a much greater emphasis on delivery of outcomes rather than how the outcomes were to be achieved. Worked closely with the supplier to ensure consistency and alignment. I also represented commercial interests on the governance board. -
Global Category Leader For It ServicesAstrazeneca Feb 2006 - Jul 2007Wilmslow, Cheshire, UkI was responsible for the category management of AstraZeneca's global IT Services and developed, with engagement with key stakeholders including the CFO and CIO, a category strategy which sought to retain the incumbent IT global services provider (to minimise business disruption at a critical time for the company’s product pipeline) but also to transform the scope and performance of IT services and deliver savings. Following approval of the category strategy I became the commercial lead on the project to implement the strategy which successfully delivered a new, transformed $1.4bn contract with the incumbent which also delivered >15% savings.
