I returned to the role of program and staff management during a time of transition at the World Relief office. I oversee all direct client services staff and ensure proper implementation of grant programs. I interview, hire, and train new staff. I also continue my work of leading community discussions on interculturalism and present regularly to community partners to help professionals provide culturally relevant and effective service to newcomers.

I piloted a new program initiative at World Relief called the Learning Center. Our goals were to enhance culturally relevant educational opportunities for newcomers as well as provide intercultural learning opportunities for the receiving community. As a Qualified Administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI), I led both community members and the World Relief through a series on engaging cultural differences. I had the opportunity to present on cultural differences and working effectively across cultures with healthcare providers, non-profit agencies, police departments, and school districts.

I managed the Refugee Services department including case management, health navigation, education, and employment services. I supervised multicultural staff members in these specialized areas and oversaw the implementation of several grants ensuring compliance. I created new staff and intern on-boarding and training materials.

I returned to World Relief Fox Valley after working abroad for over a year and helped create a new position. I overhauled the orientation program by creating new curriculum, materials, and expanding the number of topics to include for newly arrived refugees. I taught classes on U.S. laws, personal finance, managing healthcare, and various other life skills topics. In addition to teaching refugee clients, I trained community partners and volunteers in cultural competency and working with refugees and their specific needs.

Chiang Mai, Thailand

I taught English to middle and high school students at a private academy in Chiang Mai, Thailand through the TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) program, instructing up to 50 students per classroom. In addition to developing curriculum for the school year, I assisted Thai administrative staff in composing and editing English language materials, announcements, and school newspaper articles.

I served as legal assistant to a self-practicing attorney by managing the office, scheduling court appearances and meetings, maintaining client files, drafting correspondence, and offering client care. Before I left, I created a comprehensive office management manual to increase efficiency and then interviewed candidates, hired, and trained my replacement.

Oshkosh, Wisconsin Area

I provided case management to newly arrived refugees while promoting self-sufficiency and successful integration into the local community. For the refugee clients we served, I created and implemented an orientation program tailored to our community, liaised between World Relief and community agencies and service providers, launched a volunteer training and recruitment program, and supervised the activities of interns and volunteers.
