As a highly motivated student, I am more than ready to learn to become the best I possibly can. I want to do everything I can to put myself ahead both educational and through experience. As I begin the journey to becoming a CPA and make a successful name for myself I draw on experiences to further myself. Thinking back to time working in finance with CIBC Wood Gundy I fondly think of learning about myself and how I can help the client experience and pushing myself past my social comfort zone to make connections and help the teams I was working for. In hindsight I now understand how valuable improving my communication skills has been as I progress into my career post graduation, I look forward to meeting as many new people as I can and learning about them and their stories. Administrative responsibilities helped me create a better overall knowledge of the inner workings of Wood Gundy and led me towards a greater understanding of how different teams operate and what I can do best to become more resilient to chance and work with new people. My internal processes management and communication skills helped me transfer into a tax and compilation engagement preparation position at Trenholme and Company. Where I began to gain a better grasp on both personal and corporate accounting while taking CPA prep courses. As this is only the beginning of my accounting career I am ready to put what I have learned to use and begin to learn as much as I can while completing my CPA at a Big 4 firm. While on this journey throughout my career I would like to keep in line with my values for maintaining my passion for my work while also striving towards creating some certainty for myself in difficult situations. UVIC has given me great opportunities to help me on my path to getting into the world of CPA's with a future focus. By attending the mentorship program allowed me to speak to many great individuals with a vast range of knowledge to share and advice to give. Atteding a handful of CPA networking events and those related to job search strategies has helped prepare me for the next chapter of my life and advancing into the world of accounting. As my career develops further I look forward to meeting like minded individuals that I can learn and grow with, and join me on my journey of advancing through accounting to accomplish my goal of becoming the CFO of a company.
