James is Treasurer at alex.bank, an online lender and one of Australia's newest digital banking players.Prior to this he had 20 years at Bank of Queensland (BOQ) responsible for senior-unsecured issuance, subordinated note issuance, hybrid issuance, covered bond issuance and securitisation funding under the REDS (RMBS), REDS MHP (ABS) and REDS EHP (ABS) programmes. He set up the latter programme in 2003 and led the team that set up BOQ’s innovative conditional pass-through covered bond programme in 2017, which was a first in the Asia-Pacific region and was voted Australasian-Origin Offshore Financial Institution Deal of the Year in 2017. James served on the National Committee for the Australian Securitisation Forum (ASF) in 2017. Before joining BOQ, James worked at Barclays Capital for 3 years in London and Hong Kong as a derivatives lawyer, was admitted to practice as a solicitor in both Queensland, and England and Wales, and set up the first collateralised derivatives agreement with an Australian bank. James holds a Bachelor of Laws (Queensland University of Technology (QUT)), a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Finance from the Securities Institute of Australia and a Masters of Applied Finance (Dean of Business award for academic excellence) from QUT.
