About James Spollard
I am a physicist who is obsessed with technology. I love solving challenging problems and building things from the ground up.In 2021 I co-founded Vai Photonics with Lyle Roberts to commercialise photonic sensor research we were conducting at The Australian National University. During my PhD I worked on several technologies including coherent LiDAR, optical phased arrays, and digitally enhanced interferometry. A highlight of my research was experimentally demonstrating the improvement in performance of digitally enhanced interferometry by more than four orders of magnitude. I published five peer-reviewed journal articles and filed two patents during this time.
