Project Bella is an incubator nonprofit focused on empowering animal welfare organizations to raise funds and awareness for lifesaving and community programs. Our flagship event, the Shelter Slumber Pawty has raised over $600,000 for animal welfare organizations since launching in 2017. On March 25, 2023, Project Bella is hosting the first, National Shelter Slumber Pawty.

Organized 2022 pilot project strategy to prove efficacy of community-centered sheltering.Assisted in creation of strategy and templates for implementation of key community-centric elements (lost pet reunification, supported self rehoming, pet support services and intake to placement) to train shelters across the country.Led Ecosystem Mapping working group that established the ideal animal welfare ecosystem for communities to outline existing pet support resources and find resource gaps.Initiated and led partnership with human service locator network, Findhelp.org, to bring animal welfare to the most widely used service network.Created self assessment for partner organizations to establish a baseline of community-centric program implementation.Established monthly project reports with a tracking system for multi-team reporting.Revamped Intranet for engaged stakeholders of the Human Animal Support Services Project.Built team Intranet for the American Pets Alive! team Operationalized the strategic plan through team sessions to outline successful completion, key performance indicators and milestone tracking. Created strategy and built CRM in Monday.com to manage the 10,000+ Human Animal Support Services engaged individuals and 2100+ engaged organizations and shelters.Built real-time dashboards to provide a snapshot of project size and demographics.

Oversee all administrative functions of the organization. Redevelop internal procedures to streamline processes as needed. Coordinate fundraisers and build relationships with individual and corporate donors. Continue to grow the organization based on industry and environmental needs.

In 2009 volunteers from Gateway Pet Guardians began filming on the streets of East St. Louis. They were filming the daily happenings and feedings of founder, PJ Hightower. Filming commenced in March 2010. Jamie Case, Amie Simmons and Webster University Film Professor, Rebecca Ormond began piecing together the thousands of hours of footage to create Gateway Guardians. Gateway Guardians is a documentary showing the homeless animal population of East St. Louis, IL.
